AUSTRIA: SPECULATION ABOUT SWISSCOM, UTA

Article Abstract:

UTA is taking over Netway, an internet access provider and fixed-line network operator. In a share swap, Raiffeisen banks and the insurance company Uniqa will get a stake in UTA. Reportedly the stake will be just under 10% and come from the current shareholders, i.e. Swisscom and Austrian regional power companies. Currently the Swiss telecoms group holds 50% plus one share. If these speculations turn out correct, this would explain Swisscom's reserve in bidding for UMTS licences.
