Liquid gold

Article Abstract:

Quebec's maple industry has started its own marketing campaign geared towards positioning maple syrup as a quality product that can be used even with gourmet foods. The campaign includes point-of-sale kiosks and recipes for dishes such as maple turkey filet. Jean-Pierre Bellegarde, director of research and communications at Quebec's federation of maple syrup producers, says the aim of the campaign is to show that maple syrup can enhance main dishes without having to abandon its traditional role in desserts.

Cruising for dollars

Article Abstract:

The Port of Montreal predicts that as many as 25,000 cruise passengers would set foot in Montreal in 2000 even if Florida-based Premier Cruise Lines went bankrupt in mid-September. Michel Turgon, the port's director of communications, says the demise of the cruise line has forced the port to revise its estimates for 2000. The port would like to see the cruise season begin in June rather than in August, when fall foliage and cool temperatures are the region's main attractions.
