Mark Schwartz, the chairman of Goldman Sachs Group Inc.'s operations in Asia, is leaving the firm by the end of June 2001. Schwartz is retiring in order to have more time with his family.

Nomura is in talks on a partnership with U.S. firm

Nomura Holdings Inc. confirmed that it was engaged in discussions with Thomas Weisel Partners L.L.C. over a possible partnership. Such a partnership will strengthen Nomura's merger-and-acquisition operations.

J.P. Morgan Chase and Co. and Cazenove Group PLC are considering a joint venture. It would include most of Cazenove's corporate-broker and investment-banking businesses. J.P. Morgan would contribute cash and some personnel.
