Hurricane Andrew was the most devastating storm in US history, and Pres Bush's political fate in Florida could depend on how he handles the disaster there. There has been a huge government effort aimed at helping south Florida, but some are wondering about why the White House delayed taking action.

Polls indicate Bush has lost his traditional wide lead in Utah, although Republican candidates for the Senate and state legislature still hold strong leads. The conservative state has not been effected much by the recession.
