Air-delivery firms race to boost Asia operations

Article Abstract:

The intra-Asian express air courier market led the world in terms of air cargo traffic growth in 1994 with a growth of over 15%. Buoyed by the impressive growth of the region, air courier service providers such as DHL Corp., Federal Express Corp., TNT Express Worldwide Ltd. and United Parcel Service of America Inc. are competing to dominate the Asian market. Federal Express will inaugurate its new Asian hub at Subic Bay, Philippines, while DHL will open its own facility in Manila, Philippines. TNT has already been operating its hub in the Philippine capital.

The firm exists as an alternative to the post office and it has opened branches in such Asian countries as the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia. It has gained the reputation of being the world's leading nonfood franchise.
