Article Abstract:

Japan's Defense Agency is struggling with the US in the joint development of the FSX fighter. The Japanese are eager to gain technological independence from the US military. However, Japan alone does not have the industrial capabilities to develop such an aircraft. Previous experience developing the F15 fighter with US manufacturers caused many disputes over costly maintenance, and cost overruns might prevent the FSX from ever reaching full production. Despite the problems, Japan prefers joint production because of access to technological transfers.

Article Abstract:

Consumer electronics companies have announced plans to introduce consumer video-compact disc players for Christmas 1993 that will play karaoke CDs that containing 74 minutes of digital video and digital audio. Karoake CD will be the first completely digital video product aimed at consumers. Success of the format would benefit makers of semiconductor chips that decode the compressed data stored on the CDs as well as manufacturers of the players and software.
