Airbus A380 is set to gain clearance: certification is a victory for EU's safety regulator and beleaguered jet maker

Article Abstract:

The Airbus A380 is about to be certified by the United States Federal Aviation Administration and the European Aviation Safety Agency. This will be the first aircraft certified by the European agency, which was formed in 2002 by the European Union as a counterpart to the FAA.

Airbus Industrie said it sees a new opportunity to expand into the U.S. military marketplace with the difficulties being experienced by Boeing Co. Airbus is hoping to take advantage of Boeing's contract problems with the U.S. government.

Europe's air shows may sputter

Article Abstract:

Air show exhibitions in Europe could be negatively affected by political and economic factors. Such factors could hurt the 2003 Paris Air Show. Some aviation companies will not exhibit their aircraft in these shows.
