Akzo's net falls 7% but beats estimates

Akzo Nobel NV announced that its net profits for the first quarter of 1999 dropped by 7% compared to the same period in 1998. Akzo also said that it was implementing a restructuring plan for its Acordis fibers division. Akzo, a chemicals group based in the Netherlands, posted a net income decline to 173 million euros ($183.9 million). During the same period in 1998, the company posted 186 million euros.
