Alberta power struggle

Article Abstract:

Alberta's electric utilities are geared for a new round of competition as the city is poised to deregulate the retail sale of electricity. Calgary- based Enmax and Edmonton-based Epcor were both a regulated monopoly prior to deregulation, having the right and obligation to serve a particular geographic area. The Electric Utilities Act changed all that by giving electricity retailers five years to prepare for competition. Thus, starting Jan 1, 2001, consumers will choose their supplier, regardless of where the consumer is located or where the retailer is based.

Alberta bound

Article Abstract:

The first priority of Travel Alberta was the development of a three-year Strategic Tourism Marketing Plan that defined Alberta's markets on the basis of air accessibility, historic visitation patterns and research information from within the tourism industry. The agency then launched an aggressive marketing campaign that can be likened to that for the 1988 Calgary Olympic Winter Games. Publications featuring outstanding photography of Alberta's landscape were printed to lure tourists with images and motivate them to visit the agency's Web site.
