Alcatel C ble/Charleroi: restructuration interne ou transfert?

Article Abstract:

Faced with a choice of a transfer of location, or an internal restructuring plan, unions at the Alcatel C ble Benelux (ACB) site at Charleroi have announced that they are strongly against any transfer plan. Instead they have demanded that ACB invests between BFr 30mn and BFr 40mn in the Charleroi site in order to enable the site to respond to a major contract expected to be signed soon with Tractabel. The site manufactures medium and high tension telecommunications cables, and employs 90 staff. Managers had proposed that activities could be transferred to a plant at Dour/Elouges (Borinage) in approximately 12 or 18 months time , or that an internal restructuring plan could be carried out, including the suppression of tool equipment that no longer meets the demands of the market, this would also lead to job losses. In July 1998 it was announced that 40 administrative services staff at ACB's Charleroi site would be transferred to a site at Brussels/Huizingen.

La SNCB en campagne/

Article Abstract:

Following a decision by the Belgian government, the SNCB will repeat its 'ozone card' operation in 1998, which offers ten journeys between two stations determined in advance, for the price of six. Unlike previous years, the SNCB will not finance the entire BFr 10mn for the operation; the public authorities will cover half of it. This summer operation, which is designed to combat ozone pollution, began on 1 July 1998.
