The Kurdish question in Turkey is dealt with in a new movie from Turkey called 'Journey to the Sun'. The movie was shown outside Turkey first, and was shown in Turkey in Mar 2000. Initially, distributors did not want to become involved with the movie, according to Yesim Ustaoglu, who directed and wrote it. Turkish viewers have to deal with racism against Kurds which is an issue tackled in the movie. The reviews in Turkey have tended to focus on the international acclaim the movie has received, and issues other than the Kurdish question, such as the abilities of the actors.

There have been a number of movies released in fall 1999 which have depicted masculinity in different ways. This trend is linked to an identity crisis suffered by American men. 'Fight Club' presents an image of men as having become too feminine since their mothers have raised them. Moral certainty is an important theme in a number of movies such as 'Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai' and 'The Insider'. Masculinity can be portrayed as tackling the internal devil rather than external foes.
