Amer Group returns to profit on strength of its Wilson unit

Article Abstract:

Amer Group OY brought itself back to profitability in 1998. The company's earnings were increased by the improvement in its Wilson sporting-goods unit. For the 1998 year, Amer posted 32 million markkaa ($6.1 million) in pretax profits before extraordinary items compared to a 53 million markkaa loss. The company's sales dropped from 4.69 billion markkaa in 1997 to 4.43 billion markkaa in 1998. Amer's profits before taxes fell from 23 million markkaa to 16 million markkaa.

Adidas predicts fall in 1st-quarter profit

Article Abstract:

Adidas-Solomon AG is predicting that it will post a fall in earnings for the first-quarter of 1999. The company is attributing the expected decline to a major drop in sales of its Taylor Made golf brand. For the first quarter, Adidas is expecting to post 35% to 40% less earnings that it did during the same period 1998. The company said it is expecting to post flat quarterly revenues of 2 .7 billion marks.

Preliminary results give a 7.5% boost to Adidas shares
