American blobjectivity

Article Abstract:

'Blobjects' are curvilinear shapes used in the Ford Taurus vehicle and the iMac computer, as well as a range of objects such as sunglasses. There is demand for new designs from US consumers, and US designers have traveled widely. Design is fashionable in the US. The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, New York, organizes triennial design exhibitions which help to boost designers and raise the global profile of US designers. The exhibitions are not comprehensive, though they are ambitious.
