An empirical application of the information-structures model: the Postal Authority case

Article Abstract:

The information-structures model is empirically applied to Israel Postal Authority's 'regular inland letter delivery time survey' information system, which is treated as a service quality control system. The model suggests the importance of the survey as decision support system while incurring minimum expenses. Follow-up surveys, at infrequent time, are also suggested to reinforce original data. In conclusion, applying information-structures model in information systems systematize decision methods with the main focus on the key issues of the system.

Stochastic dominance in an ordinal world

Article Abstract:

Stochastic dominance (SD) rules for ordinal data are developed. Ordinal data involves instances when decision makers have incomplete information on the potential outcomes of random events. It is shown that the new rules agree with von Neumann-Morgenstern's expected utility approach and can be used in situations where existing rules cannot be applied. The application of the ordinal SD rules to a government agency problem is presented.

Evaluating sampling strategy under two criteria

Article Abstract:

A normative technique is developed for the selection of a sampling plan for an inspection lot. The method incorporates various factors from information economics, quality control, decision theory and financial portfolio selection. An information system based on expected payoff and standard payoff distribution is also considered. The model is shown to be effective in the determination of sampling plans for specific situations.
