Analysis if a production/inventory system with randomly failing production unit submitted to regular preventive maintenance

Article Abstract:

A repairable production unit is reviewed subject to random failures, which supplies input to a subsequent assembly line operating according to a jus-in-time configuration. A mathematical model developed for the strategy takes into account the probability distribution associated to lifetime, repair time, preventive maintenance duration, as well as the renewal process associated to the operation-repair cycles of the production unit.

A mathematical model and a solution method for the problem of placing various-sized circles into a strip

Article Abstract:

A computational test for the problem of placing various-sized circles into a strip is presented. The method offered is sufficiently effective when placing 15 to 35 circles. The final result depends on the choice of the first extreme step so, in order to obtain a good approximation of a global minimum it is desirable to solve the problem several times with different starting extreme points.

A population heuristic for constrained two-dimensional non-guillotine cutting

Article Abstract:

A heuristic algorithm for the constrained two-dimensional non-guillotine cutting problem is presented. This is the problem of cutting a number of rectangular pieces from a single large rectangle so as to maximize the value of the pieces cut.
