Toyota Motor Corp. of Japan at the beginning of this year planned greater production and to increase market share with the goal of becoming the world's biggest car manufacturer rivaling General Motors Corp. First-quarter net profit decreased 6.9 percent due to development costs even as sales revenue increased.

Toyota to boost spending, turning up heat on G.M
