Annoying error messages from PCs can sometimes add insult to injury

Article Abstract:

Computer error messages such as 'this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down' or 'a fatal error has occurred' have become irksome to computer users worldwide because they do not provide useful information that will tell users what mistake they committed nor give possible solutions. Through an interview with a program manager for Windows 2000, it was revealed that these messages were worded based on the language of computer experts. Hence, it appears to be too hard to be understood by ordinary computer users.

Word-weary writer toils to delete drudgery and foster a fantasy

Article Abstract:

The advantages and disadvantages of using the old word processing program Word Perfect for DOS were described by a retired military attache in Jakarta and a retired journalist. One of its advantages is the ability to delete a line using both 'control' and 'end' to get it done. With a mouse, it takes highlighting the exact words that should be deleted. Microsoft Word has useless functions such as grammar check and the incorrect indentation and numbering of paragraphs.
