Another look at strategy-structure relationships: the resource-based view

Article Abstract:

A case study of sports equipment manufacturer Salomon illustrates the resource-based framework approach to business management. This type of analysis integrates the concepts of competencies and organizational capabilities, structure and learning. It offers a means to examine the relationship between structure and strategy. Salomon's competency is its market knowledge and the technologies required. It optimized this competency through its project management approach which represents its organizational capability and also forms the structure of both the firm and the learning capacity.
