A target for protection

Article Abstract:

The agreement in which Japan was to ensure that 20% of its semiconductor chip market be open to foreign firms has been a success, and other US industries are calling for similar measures. There is fear though that managed trade will close markets, not open them.

Bashed by the mighty yen: Japanese business

Article Abstract:

Japanese exporters are complaining that the rising value of the yen will begin to affect their business. Officials believe that the increase is important in making Japan a strong trading area, but it could affect already depressed corporate profits.
