Boeing may team with Europe's Airbus Industrie to work on a new jumbo airliner that could have between 600 and 800 seats. The project is too big for one company to attempt alone, so the industry rivals are considering a cooperative venture.

Layoffs of up to 30,000 jobs at Boeing Co will hit the Seattle, WA metropolitan area hard. While growing industries in computer software and medical technology will replace some of the lost job market, Boeing is the state's chief employer.
