Australia Inc.? Companies call for more than laissez-faire

Article Abstract:

Australia's industrial policy is in the spotlight as more companies move their operations overseas due to increased operating costs and a lack of government support. Coalition government minister for industry, science and tourism, John Moore, wants to increase business investment, aid for R&D and overseas market access and has called for a review of Australia's business programmes. He is also seeking ways of assisting small companies to raise money on the Australian Stock Exchange. Some businessmen believe the policy lacks a long term strategy.
