Austria: Ticket Junior a success

Article Abstract:

The pilot project, Ticket Junior, under which companies can offer their employees vouchers for babysitters or childminders has been a success in its first four months in Austria. The scheme, which is being tested by four Austrian companies, is seen as an alternative or supplement to a company creche, and takes into account that many parents prefer to have their children looked after near their home rather than near their workplace. However, the system would be even more popular if the vouchers were tax-free, as in the UK and Germany.

Austria: System encourages early retirement

Article Abstract:

A study by the Institut fuer Hoehere Studien revealed that to get the best deal from the pension system, Austrians must retire as early as possible. For an average earner the optimal retirement age is the earliest possible legal retirement age of 61.5 for men and 56.5 for women. A low earner will get the best deal if they stop working at 55 and live on benefits until they reach legal retirement age. Currently 50% of men in Austria take early retirement (retirement at 55) on grounds of infirmity.
