BA, American unveil Oneworld alliance

Article Abstract:

British Airways (BA) and American Airlines introduced a new pact that will link their frequent-flier programs and customer services with other airlines, such as Cathay Pacific Airways of Hong Kong, Canadian Airlines and Qantas Airways of Australia. Called Oneworld, it will create a combined network of 632 destinations in 138 countries. The Oneworld alliance will expand BA and American's reach in Asia as well as give new markets to other regional carriers that might want to enter the alliance. Although the alliance does not require equity exchange from the partners, BA and American hope that increased customer loyalty will raise their revenues.
