New gas pipeline links U.K. to Continental European market

Article Abstract:

The new gas pipeline running under the North Sea will link the once isolated UK natural-gas market to mainland Europe beginning Oct. 1, 1998. The new 210-km pipeline will supply natural gas from Bacton in eastern England, UK, to the port of Zeebrugge in Belgium. The Bacton-Zeebrugge pipeline was built by a consortium of international oil, gas and power companies, including BG PLC and Rurhgas, to establish UK as another reliable supplier to help European buyers reduce their risk when buying oil from cheap sources.
