BANKS MAKE UP FOR EARLIER LOSSES IN Q2

Article Abstract:

Figures released by the Reserve Bank of India reveal that the nationalised banks have regained the marketshare lost during first quarter of 1998-99. During the second quarter of 1998-99, the nationalised banks accounted for 54.70 percent of the total deposits of the banking sector (54 percent during the first quarter of 1998-99). The State Bank of India group accounted for 24.4 percent of the total deposits during the second quarter of 1998-99 (24.80 percent) while foreign banks accounted for seven percent (7.5 percent). Other scheduled banks accounted for 10.40 percent and regional rural banks accounted for 3.5 percent. (ag)(vr)

ING GROUP, VYSYA BANK FORM ALLIANCE

Article Abstract:

Vysya Bank has tied-up with ING Financial Services International (Asia) Ltd. Both the companies will be jointly identifying opportunities in retail financial services in India. They also plan to offer integrated financial services including life insurance services to Indian customers. The move is expected to generate more income to the bank's network and offer more products to the customers. (ag)
