BBC to start taking Web ads as government tightens funds

The British Broadcasting Corp. announced plans to eliminate 2,500 jobs by 2013 and adopt Web-based advertising to compensate for the revenue gap from the 2006 license fee settlement with the government.

BBC unit posts record revenue

BBC Worldwide posted a record increase of 14% in revenues for the fiscal 2001 year. The company posted 587 million pounds (974.2 million euros) in global revenues for the year.
