BMC Software in deal to buy Boole & Babbage

BMC Software Inc. is expecting to announce a deal to acquire Boole & Babbage Inc. in a exchange of shares worth $900 million. The transaction signals BMC's continuation on a fast acquisition track. The deal would make BMC the third-largest managing computer software supplier. Boole & Babbage is a developer of mainframe software based in San Jose, California. The company has been working to remake itself in order to operate in the new "open" systems world.
