BOEING, IBM CUT COSTS BY TURNING TO INDIANS

Article Abstract:

International companies like Boeing and IBM are saving substantial amounts by contracting research work to Indian aerospace scientists, who undertake critical tests for aerospace applications at a fraction of the cost in the west. National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) of Bangalore has recently finished two projects which will help Boeing design future aircraft. The two projects, worth $150,000, were for testing of aircraft joints and wing designs to reduce drag. NAL has also collaborated with IBM in applying frontier technologies of parallel processing to compute complex codes used in numerical weather predictions. (khr)
