BP moves to clean up troubles: guilty plea on 2005 blast, trading-charges settlement expected to come tomorrow

Article Abstract:

UK petroleum company BP PLC is expected to plead guilty to environmental allegations involving the Clean Air Act in the US, and to pay $303 mil to avoid prosecution for allegedly manipulating the propane sector. BP has already agreed to pay a fine of $21.4 mil to settle violations of Occupational Safety and Health Administration's workplace safety regulations. The firm is also expected to pay a fine of $50 mil for a refinery explosion in Texas.

Russia probes BP venture

Article Abstract:

The Russian Ministry of the Interior is conducting an investigation into alleged tax evasion by company Sidanko which had been merged into petroleum joint venture TNK-BP in 2003. Article discusses a related government probe into alleged espionage by British Petroleum employees, and government relations with foreign petroleum companies.

Yukos's woes are unlikely to affect its oil output with crude prices high, Kremlin has a big incentive not to crimp firm's output

Article Abstract:

Despite the ongoing legal battle in Russia, involving OAO Yukos, investors do not expect oil production to become seriously affected. The Russian government has too much to lose by hampering the petroleum company. This is especially true now, with the price of oil on the rise.
