BT counterbids for Airtel stake; Vodafone may win

A counteroffer has been made for Banco Santander Central Hispano's 30.5% share in Airtel SA by British Telecommunications PLC. However, Banco Santander is expected to approve Vodafone AirTouch PLC's previous bid of $7.2 billion (7.09 billion euros).

Vodafone AirTouch gets two bids for Infostrada

Wind SpA and Albacom SpA have both filed offers for Infostrada SpA, Vodafone AirTouch PLC's Italian Internet and fixed-line telephony unit, but Vodafone may continue with its scheduled flotation if the bids are not improved.
