BT signals focus on Japan

British Telecommunications PLC (BT) may acquire a 5% stake in all three of Japan Telecom Co.'s mobile-phone units. The transaction indicates that BT sees Japan as a growth area, and the company would have the opportunity to gain experience with third-generation cellular services, which are expected to be launched in Japan in May.
