Article Abstract:

A survey of 34 completed UK public offers in the period Jul 1997 to Sep 1997 indicates that the average premiums over the target share price one day and one month before the offer was announced were 33% and 35% respectively. Both the highest one month and one day premiums were paid by SIG on its 24.8 million pounds sterling bid for ceiling and partitioning installation and distribution group Roskel. For the 19 domestic offers, one month and one day premiums of 36% and 34% respectively were paid.
