Back to the glory days?

Article Abstract:

The US is experiencing economic growth longer that most economists thought sustainable and this has politicians and businesses optimistic that the prolonged economic development will continue unabated. An analysis of the economic indicators however suggest that they do indeed signify strong growth that could or could not last because it is dependent on labor statistics and is only partly based on the growth of industries.

Steady as she goes

Article Abstract:

The US is continuing its steady economic growth and so far there is little indication of inflationary pressure, even with the low unemployment rate of about 5%. The GDP grew by 2.2% in the third quarter, which though it was a slowdown from the previous quarter is considered a sustainable growth rate.

Productivity revisited: how well, or badly, is America's economy doing?

Article Abstract:

Prominent Morgan Stanley economist Stephen Roach has changed his mind on slow US productivity growth issues. He has joined pessimists in arguing that technology is merely a one-time-only productivity booster, and that the US has been 'hollowed out', with displaced workers taking low-paying jobs.
