Balancing assembly lines effectively - a computational comparison

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the most effective branch and bound processes for solving type I of the simple assembly line balancing problem. The procedures examined in the study were R.V. Johnson's FABLE, F.J. Nourie and E.R. Venta's OptPack, T.R. Hoffmann's Eureka and A. Scholl and R. Klein's SALOME. Results indicated that SALOME is the most powerful branch and bound process for determining solutions to hard problem instances.
