Banking on ventilation: as the Commerzbank nears completion, its transparency and low-energy approach, based on natural ventilation, are emerging

Article Abstract:

The new Commerzbank in Frankfurt, designed by Sir Norman Foster and Partners is nearing completion. The lower structure is built to the site street line at the height of corresponding buildings and then narrows to the tower which is triangular. The building features gardens which can also be used as recreational and meeting spaces. The triangular atrium is broken by a horizontal glass screen every 12 storeys and the glazed garden screens feature controlled natural ventilation.

Rod Connors, Nike's UK market-director wanted a dynamic, creative, useful and sports-focused culture for Nike's new offices in London's Soho that would be a functional workplace for its staff. Designer Jump Studios was hired for this job that used a limited but varied palette of strong forms, materials and colors to create spaces of different character.

The Grange-over-sands in Cumbria is a home to many retired people and it contains all the amenities that one could boast of like a swimming pool, cafe, offices and multipurpose rooms, each of which is described. The plans and working drawings of each are highlighted.
