Battling British focus on euro

Article Abstract:

Major business organizations in the UK have started to take a key role in the debate over the country's membership in a European economic and monetary union. While other European business organizations generally had participated in government-sponsored talks between trade unions and business, that has not been the case in the UK. British business organizations have had no official role in national politics since the 1980s when collective bargaining between social partners was abandoned.

Shed the burden and prosper

Article Abstract:

Europe needs to reduce taxes and liberalize its labor market if it wants its economy to grow. The high rates of taxation have been especially harmful because it has reduced the amount of capital available for growth and it discourages the amount of savings and investment. Europe should consider adopting a flat tax scheme, and it should allow the establishment of an unquoted "S" corporation, which is allowed in the US.
