Belgian utilities create company for Nordic area

Article Abstract:

Tractebel SA and Electrabel SA announced that they have formed a new firm called Scandic Energy to enter the electricity markets of Norway and Sweden. The companies, which are both based in Belgium, decided to compete in Norway and Sweden as a result of the recent deregulation of the electricity markets in both countries. Another factor which had an effect on the decision to form Scandic Energy was the planned deregulation of the electricity markets in the 15 European Union (EU) member countries. Scandic Energy, which will have a capital of 100 million kronor, will be involved in the physical and futures segments of the electricity markets in Norway and Sweden.

Road test; as VW cranks out more models, they start to look alike

Article Abstract:

Volkswagen AG is beginning to use the same platform, which includes chassis, transmission, and other components, on its four major brands, Audi, Seat, VW and Skoda. Although this strategy has saved VW hundreds of millions of dollars, the company now risks overdoing, with the result being that Volkswagen's four major brands today compete with each other, along with BMWs, Opels, and other marques. It's possible that VW's platform strategy could bring about weaker demand for upmarket brands, where profits are highest.
