Bertelsmann to buy Columbia House

Article Abstract:

German media company Bertelsmann AG is purchasing Columbia House, a mail-order retailer of DVDs and music, in an effort to expand its music club business in the United States and Canada. Columbia House, which has struggled to keep its membership-based business viable amidst competition from online companies, was sold by Time Warner Inc. and Sony Corp. to Blackstone Group in 2002.
