A benzo-fused oxapenem from a beta-lactam-4-ylidene
Article Abstract:
Preparation of spiro-fused beta-lactam oxadiazoline was accomplished in five steps beginning from acetone semicarbazone. Carbene was first produced by thermolysis at 100 degrees Celsius in benzene. The carbene cyclized to the benzo-fused oxapenem derivative by insertion of intramolecular OH. Another minor product with a beta-lactam ring linked to an azetidinedione ring also appeared.

The new St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art displays religious articles in exhibits arranged by themes as well as by faiths. Director Julian Spalding says his aim was to create a religious atmosphere so patrons could feel inspired by the art.
