Blair's genie

Article Abstract:

The Jenkins Commission has reported on electoral reform in the United Kingdom and this issue should be tackled in order to retain vigor in democracy in the UK. There is insufficient correlation between seats won and votes cast, and governments have been formed by parties obtaining fewer votes than the other main contender on two occasions since 1945. There is a need for stable government as well as greater fairness. There are drawbacks to Jenkins' proposals, but his proposals should receive supports as being better than the existing system.

Once more with feeling

Article Abstract:

Elections of different types are scheduled in the United Kingdom, including local government elections, and elections for new assemblies for Wales and Scotland. Different systems will be used for each election, with proportional representation to be tried out first for the Welsh and Scottish assemblies. The most favored coalition in Scotland is one between the Scottish National Party and Labor Party, but this is not likely to occur, and proportional representation may not provide what voters would like all of the time.
