Brazilian states power ahead with sales

Article Abstract:

Governments in Brazil are continuing with power sales, with the state of Minas Gerais selling a stake in Cemig, the state electricity company. It is believed that Chilectra of Chile and parent Empresa Nacional de Electricidad are interested in the sale. Power company Cerj of Rio de Janeiro is also to be sold and BNDES, the Brazilian national development bank is auctioning shares of Eletrobras, an electricity generator. There are also activities in the petrochemical industry and banking sectors.

Telecom sales in Nicaragua and Guatemala

Article Abstract:

Nicaragua and Guatemala are planning to privatise and liberalise their telecommunications industries, but it is uncertain whether the initiatives will extend to other areas of the economy. 40% of Enitel of Nicaragua is to be sold off, and interested bidders are thought to include Telefonica of Sppain, AT&T Sprint International of the US and CTC of Chile. Preparations for the sale of Guatel, the monopoly telecoms provider in Guatemala, are also underway.

Estonia plans sales of minority shareholdings

Article Abstract:

The Estonian Privatisation Agency is to launch a further sale of minority shares held by the government, including shares in Estonian Tobacco, Tallinn Pharmaceuticals, Tallin Meat Packing Plant and Klementi Sewing Factory. Shares in Estonian Tobacoo may be offered separately in an auction. The privatisation of the Kalev confectionery factory has been postponed as bids were considered unsufficient.
