Breaking away from the past: strategies of successful Polish firms

Article Abstract:

Leading Polish firms have implemented various strategies in order to move away successfully from the past and adapt to the new, market-based economy. Many of the strategies have common features, particularly the fact that managers made clear strategic choices rather than waiting for strategies to emerge. Successful companies also showed a bias for action, with rapid decisions and actions. However, after learning how to operate in a market economy, the firms followed different strategic directions. Source profiles Gazeta Wyborcza, Ambra S.A., PWE and Szczecin Shipyard.

Many issues concerning quality are raised when a strategic approach is adopted, such as the effectiveness of operations and production in terms of strategy implementation, and marketing theories based around competition.
