British Biotech to look for deals in European biotechnology sector

British Biotech PLC announced that it is planning to be active in the consolidation of the biotechnology industry in Europe. In recent months, that consolidation has accelerated. Elliot Goldstein, the chief executive officer of British Biotech, said that the company was seeking to become one of the medium-sized companies in the European biotech industry over the long-term.

AstraZeneca may consider selling unit

Article Abstract:

AstraZeneca PLC posted strong profits and sales growth for the first-half of 1999. However, the company did say that it might carry out a major restructuring. AstraZeneca said that it might sell or spinoff its unprofitable agrochemical unit. The company posted a 6% rise in pretax profits during the first-half. Profits increased from $1.93 billion to $2.06 billion. AstraZeneca's pro-forma sales from $8.1 billion to $9.04 billion.
