Building with intelligence

Article Abstract:

Intelligent buildings are the subject of three new reports. 'Intelligent Building Technologies: Japan and Singapore' by David Gann of Sussex University and 'Home Electronic Systems: Routes to the Market' by NEDO both see intelligence as a set of integrated building services. 'The Intelligent Building in Europe' by DEGW and Teknibank takes a more sophisticated approach. It sees intelligence as the ability of a building to improve its users' organisational effectiveness by integrating building management, space management and business management.

Potential users of intelligent buildings expected to reduce costs and gain flexibility. Those using intelligent buildings found flexibility the biggest gain, with a higher quality work environment, and increased productivity.
