Chip designer plans to boost its portfolio

Article Abstract:

British semiconductor design company ARM Holdings PLC is purchasing Artisan Components Inc., a U.S. manufacturer of components for electronics circuitry. The acquisition is part of ARM's goal to expand the range of products it can offer to its customers. ARM currently supplies nearly all of the world's major semiconductor companies with a piece of technology crucial to the manufacture of such popular consumer electronics as portable digital devices, digital cameras, and cell phones.

The campaign, which is focusing on building grassroots support, is aimed to counter anti-trade campaigns by environmentalists, labor unions and human rights groups.
