The use and legal status of a final certificate, issued on completion of a building, are explained. Cases involving disputes between contractors and clients over defects claims in the absence of a final certificate are raised.

Homeowners are getting a mature, attractive new contract

The stressful nature of undertaking construction work within the home environment has been acknowledged by a new building contract standard form, produced construction work standards organisations in the UK. The guidelines point out builders should take into consideration the homeowners concerns when building work is being carried out in their home and try to make the situation as trouble free as possible. Legal redress can be taken if builders fail to consider their employers.
