Canada installs news system

Article Abstract:

Nav Canada has completed site acceptance testing on the Canadian Automated Air Traffic system (CAATS) in early Dec 2000. The system, supplied by Raytheon Systems Canada, provides air traffic management for 5.8 million square miles of airspace. It features an advanced flight data processing capability, a four-dimensional flight probe and clearance validation. In addition, it automates flight data distribution between CAATS installations and extrenal systems, thus reducing the need for voice communications between controllers and other agencies.

New targets for the Netherlands

Article Abstract:

FY 1999 was a critical year for Luftverkeersleiding Nederland (LVNL), the air traffic control authority of Netherlands, for several reasons. For one, the Dutch government has decided to privatize LVNL, although its precise structure has yet to be finalized. The increase in air traffic delays has also accelerated the integration of European airspace, where LVNL plays a key role, particularly in Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Its revenues grew by 9% in 1999 while its long-term financial facility totals NLG479 million.
