It is the nature of capitalism that corporations eventually die to make room for new fast growing companies. Few companies are over a half century old, and even fewer have passed the century mark. The slowdown of the 94 year old giant General Motors Corp. is compared to amazing growth of newcomer Microsoft Corp.

Article Abstract:

The US is losing its competitive edge in high technology industries where innovation is important. Instead of pushing for technical excellence, aerospace companies should direct innovation towards applications with greater economic benefit.

A crunch of gears

The bursting of the high-tech bubble in 2000 was not surprising given that waves of economic innovation have become much shorter since the 1950s. Economic cycles still take the same form, but the pace is much more rapid.
