Cash and carry: money laundering becomes a major industry

Article Abstract:

Money laundering has become a major industry in Cmabodia, perhaps the driving force behind its cash economy, and potentially a corrupting influence leading to other sorts of organized crime. Casinos, nightclubs, restaurants, car dealers, and luxury-item stores all draw suspect spenders of large cash sums in a nation with a per-capita annual income of $200. Perhaps more important, 19 of the country's 29 banks are suspected of being money-laundering fronts. However, the higher-level criminals are still believed to operate elsewhere.
