Article Abstract:
The effort to privatize Czechoslovakia's economy is succeeding beyond what even the most optimistic were hoping. The plan to auction vouchers to the public by which they could invest in state-run businesses has created millions of shareholders, even if some of the companies have not attracted much interest.

Once-thriving Czech and Slovak theater companies are now strapped for cash in the post-socialist economy. Despite the success of the first joint Czech and Slovak Theatre Festival in Jan and Feb 1992, theatrical organizations have been forced to severely cut back on every form of expenditure.

Article Abstract:
Slovak and Czech leaders signed an agreement to create independent states by Jan 1, 1993, and the federal parliament is creating a law outlining ways to end the federation. A declaration by the parliament ending its existence would be the most efficient option.
